Welcome to UNB Law
“Canada’s great small law school” is how students, faculty, and graduates regard the Faculty of Law at the University of New Brunswick. What sets us apart at UNB is our success in bringing together ambitious students and committed teachers in a demanding but supportive learning environment. Founded in Saint John in 1892, UNB Law is the second oldest common law school in the commonwealth. Increasingly, we are recognized as one of the country’s leaders. Independent evaluations by Canadian Lawyer magazine have consistently ranked us among the very best.
UNB’s greatest asset is indeed its small size. We admit only 80 students each year and the total student body is about 230. Our school offers a close-knit community, where students from all regions of Canada and from around the world form friendships that last a lifetime. All of our facilities, including classrooms, professorial and student offices, the library, the bookstore, and lounges are located in stately Ludlow Hall, a notably pleasant physical space.
At UNB Law, classes are taught primarily by full-time faculty members who are nationally and internationally known in their areas of expertise. Our contract (part-time) faculty members are accomplished practitioners who set aside the time necessary to teach courses related to their particular specialities. Our success a teachers has been repeatedly cited by our graduates when surveyed by Canadian Lawyer magazine.
There are financial benefits to attending UNB Law School as well. In an era of dramatic increases in law school tuition, ours remains very reasonable. Scholarship and bursary support is second to none. UNB Law enjoys an excellent reputation with the practising bar across Canada. Graduates have included judges on the Supreme Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Canada as well as the Premier of New Brunswick and Ministers in the Federal Cabinet. All of this is offered at the University of New Brunswick which overlooks downtown Fredericton and the beautiful St. John River valley. |
